About the Artist /

A self-taught artist from Mexico City, Mexico, the themes, subjects, and composition of Zamoranos work and approach find their origins in El Tianguis, an open-air Mexican market tradition that his family has participated in for generations. For Zamorano, the dynamism and ephemerality of the marketplace, with its encounters, disputes, in addition to the economy of objects, aesthetics, and desires, are analogous to the act of constructing a painting.

The canvas, like the marketplace, is a site of grappling and negotiating between the infinite choices which constitute a work of art. Within this realm of burgeoning urges and amalgamated entities, Zamoranos practice likewise grapples with the slippery passage between representation and image, figuration and abstraction, language and meaning. The artists intensely physical process is a testament to this ethos – paintings are forged by the accretion of hundreds of layers of house paints, oils, acrylics, and watercolour, from which the pictorial elements are excavated via abrasion, scoring, power washing, chemical dissolvement and naturally corrosive elements of the outdoor environment, where the artist stores his canvases while working between them simultaneously.

Zamoranos recent exhibitions include: Abstraction (rec)creation, Consortium Museum (Dijon, FR 2024); Falling Upwards, Galerie Marguo (Paris, FR 2023); Ongoing portraits Chapter I, Galeria Furiosa (Mexico City, MX, 2021) and Ongoing portraits Chapter II, IMAGINE GALLERY (San Miguel de Allende, MX 2021).

자모라노의 최근 전시로는 "Abstraction (rec)creation" (Consortium Museum, 디종, 프랑스, 2024), "Falling Upwards" (Galerie Marguo, 파리, 프랑스, 2023), "Ongoing portraits Chapter I" (Galeria Furiosa, 멕시코시티, 멕시코, 2021), "Ongoing portraits Chapter II" (IMAGINE GALLERY, 산 미겔 데 아옌데, 멕시코, 2021) 등이 있습니다.
