Alexandre Yang Stockholm, b. 1997

Alexandre Yang was born in France and graduated from the Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2024 with highest honors. He currently lives and works in France.  

Yang’s pictorial practice revolves around the notion of autofiction, exploring the connections between memory, identity, and lineage. Portraiture lies at the heart of his work, serving as a vehicle for intimate and affective narratives often drawn from personal experiences and silent life trajectories. Through painting that is at once sensitive and assertive, Yang composes dreamlike scenes in which reality intertwines with fiction, and the past resurfaces through vibrant colors and carefully worked textures. His technique is both rigorous and expressive, drawing from a rich personal and collective iconography. Traditional Hmong textile motifs, historically carriers of communal narratives such as those of the Laotian war, are reappropriated and transposed onto canvas to testify to a living heritage. These motifs act as narrative elements and visual symbols that resonate with both his family history and the histories of diasporas.  

Recent solo and group exhibitions include 'Still Alive', Galerie Marguo (Paris, 2025); 'Mémoire Vive', Galerie Dauphine (Paris, 2025); '100% La Villette', Hall de La Villette, curated by Inès Geoffroy (Paris, 2025); 'L’art et la vie et inversement', Musée de l’École des Beaux-Arts, curated by Anaël Pigeat (Paris, 2025); 'Edge Dwellers', Tree Art Gallery (Paris, 2024); and 'Prix Novembre à Vitry' (Vitry-sur-Seine, 2022).  Yang was awarded First Place at the 12th Annual Juried Exhibition at Archway Gallery (Houston, 2020).
