Asian Contemporary Art Project | EXHIBITION – FENG LI @ GALERIE F16, PARIS

Camille Despré, Asian Contemporary Art Project, 14 Feb 2020

"Galerie f16, which focuses on contemporary photography, begins its collaboration with Chinese photographer Feng Li by presenting a selection of his work curated by fashion director Dan Sablon.

Self-taught photographer, the particularity of Feng Li’s work lies in the fact that he is an official photographer for the CPC as well as an independent artist. Since 2005, Feng Li develops « White Night » an ongoing project in which he photographs the Chinese contemporary society. Inspired by the reality, his daily life and encounters, Feng Li’s work has two main components: the vertical format and the use of a flash. Hence the aesthetics Feng Li develops in his work is close to the one of fashion.

Entitled « White Not », the exhibition at galerie f16 is inspired by « White Night ». This title also brings to mind a contemporary China where nights are not black but enlighten by Skyscraper lights, LED twinkles and car blinks filling the streets until dawn.

Feng Li’s work received the Jimei x Arles Discovery Award at Jimei x Arles International Photo Festival in 2017. His works have been exhibited at the Three Shadows Photography Art Centre in Beijing in 2017 in the exhibition 40 Years of Chinese Contemporary Photography (1976-2017) and at the Rencontres d’Arles in 2018."
