Continuing from the ceramic works featured in Xie Fan's solo exhibition at Bangkok Kunsthalle this April, this plate extends the artist's Cun 皴 series-an exploration of color, materiality, and the textured qualities of natural mineral pigments. Originally designed by Xie Fan Studio for the Datenbank restaurant in Chengdu, each plate is handcrafted to echo the chromatic depth of ultramarine and lapis lazuli.
Pure mineral pigments are blended directly into the clay and fired at 1280°C, allowing the surface to develop its rich, stone-like ultramarine tone and tactile presence. Individually shaped and glazed by hand, every plate carries subtle differences in color, texture, and form-no two are ever alike.
As light moves across the cobalt surface, it reveals soft atmospheric shifts that resonate with the artist's broader practice. Whether used as an everyday object or displayed as a sculptural piece, the plate offers a quiet, contemplative presence.
