Influenced by her myriad experiences with communal living – from working in a bicycle co-op, running an art space/printing press, and notably, living on a farm in Georgia for the past 5 years – Settles paints highly detailed narrative scenes that explore "moments of joyful stillness amidst the cascading series of crises called modern life."
Taking the collections of the Museu de Menorca and the Talayotic ruins as points of departure, the new works will continue the artist’s research on histories of autonomy and communion with nature, focusing on the island’s rich agricultural history dating from 1600 BCE.
